We have received word that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are to be launched in South Africa on Thursday, October 23rd 2014.
According to our source, Vodacom have already received an undisclosed amount of iPhone 6’s, and are currently holding it at their warehouse.
The iPhone is said to launch on on the 23rd of October, with the contract deals to be revealed a week before this. Vodacom are said to be already gearing their staff up for the launch, and are also doing their best to ensure that all stores will receive ‘ample’ stock of all models, unlike previous years where stock was quickly diminished. Interestingly, if the reports are true, it seems that this year, in-store reservations of handsets will not be allowed.
According to our source, Vodacom are also quite confident that this will be the biggest iPhone launch in SA yet.
Remember folks, at this point this is just a rumour. However, that’s no reason not to get excited – It’s getting close! While October 23rd seems rather soon, it’s definitely a plausible date. However, without being too pessimistic, unforeseen issues can always arise which could delay the launch further. On a brighter note, our source seems rather confident in their reports, and Apple have previously stated that this will be their ‘quickest iPhone launch yet’, with the devices reaching 119 countries by the end of the year. So if it’s not October 23rd, we shouldn’t have to wait too long after.
The date October 23rd does carry a certain significance. It is the start of Diwali in India. Our previous launches have aligned with that of India, including the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 which were launched on the same day in both countries. India have also been pushing for a release date before Diwali, after numerous delays from Apple.
So mark the date in your calender anyway folks! October 23rd 2014.
