So I recently invested in a unity remote from Gear4 initially i was a bit uneasy about spending R1000-00 on an accessory that does not do much more than a R100-00 universal remote that one can buy at any electronics shop, but so far I am fairly pleased with my purchase.
The app that comes with the device works fairly well and has a rather comprehensive database of common devices.
It is easy to use and guides you through the entire process with minimal effort
The remote tends to automatically connect (Most of the time)
The unity feature is extremely nifty. Especially if you need to turn on multiple devices and switch inputs as well as change display settings in one go to say switch between TV and blue ray player.
The physical device looks like a cyborg sent from the future to take over the world (So thats cool)
Bluetooth as a decent range. about 10~12m which is great IMO!
If a device is not included in the default database it is easy enough to add and the setup assistant is MOST helpful!!
But the best part is that it turns
Sometimes keystrokes take a while to go through
The app does has a comprehensive database of common devices that does not include DSTV decoders past the single view SD decoder.
Even though they advertise you can use multiple iDevices I still have not found away to actually achieve that.
The batteries last long enough but the device has to enter sleep mode after a while and then you have to press a button on the device to wake it up. (Kinda irritating if the device is far away from you, kinda defeats the purpose of a REMOTE”)
All in all I am fairly pleased with the device as a whole.
