Microsoft recently released a preview of Office 2016 for Mac. It’s essentially a beta version and is not recommended for daily use and should rather be installed alongside Office 2011.
The main features of this new version of Office 2016 Mac Preview are:
- A new user interface that matches Office 2013 and the iPad version
- Improved OneDrive integration
- Brand new templates
The following applications are included as part of Office 2016 Mac Preview:
OneNote is available as a separate download via the Mac App Store. All four Office 2016 apps are already sandboxed. This could mean that Office 2016 will be released on the Mac App Store similar to the iOS version.
One small but notable feature is a simple but efficient document sharing icon that appears on the top-right corner of each app. It’s a quick way to share documents with minimum interruption of your workflow.
Office 2016 Mac Preview is not a feature rich update. However, it’s main feature of bringing Office for Mac more in-line with Office for Windows is much needed. Office 365 subscribers will receive Office for Mac 2016 as soon as it’s released.
