UPDATE: iOS 6 is available NOW!
Along with the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple also made announced the release date for the latest update to it’s iDevice operating system, iOS 6, which was introduced at the last WWDC event we covered in June.
The iOS6 features have already been, for the most part, covered at the past WWDC event, however for a quick refresh check out Apples official iOS6 page.
iOS6 is available for download NOW!
It is available as an OTA (Over-The-Air) update from your iDevice (for iDevices on iOS5 and up), or to download as a complete package. The OTA option consumes less bandwidth and is thus quicker and cheaper for those with prepaid broadband caps.
Download iOS 6:
Firstly, backup, backup, and backup. Even if you are doing an OTA update, make sure you always keep at least one backup of your iDevice.
To update OTA, head over to Settings > General > Software Update from your iDevice.
Full .ipsw Firmware File:
To download the full firmware package, useful for those on pre-iOS5, here are the links. Remember to do a full back up of your iDevice in iTunes before you install iOS 6. To install the downloaded .ipsw firmware files you will have to use iTunes, plug in your iDevice, backup, and then either shift + click on Restore (or alt + click on Restore on a Mac). If successful, a window will pop up asking you to browse for the downloaded .ipsw file which you will download below.
