We are glad to report that the “Games” category is now officially available in the South African App Store!
After years of deprivation, from what was likely due to the South African FPB (Film & Publications Board) regulations, South African iTunes account holders may now enjoy free and paid for games using their South African iTunes account.
Previously, it was required that users create a free US iTunes account, and load US iTunes/App Store vouchers (available from third party websites) as a workaround to this issue. This is no longer necessary, unless of course that particular app/game has not been launched in the SA app store, or you wish to take advantage of free offers only available on the US App Store.
As you can see in the screen grab below, Angry Birds is available for R7.99, compared to the US price of $0.99. Not bad at all!
More games are, without a doubt, currently being rolled out on the SA App Store.
