Apple managed to keep this wearable device rather hush and unlike the slew of iPhone leaks, there was minimal info regarding the Apple Watch before it was officially announced tonight.
The quick low-down of the Apple Watch:
The Apple Watch features a super-strong sapphire display, four sensors on the back which can detect when you raise your hand and turn on the display accordingly as well as measure your heartbeat, an embedded NFC chip for Apple Pay, along with six different straps available at launch.
In line with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, there are two sizes available. 38mm and a 42mm face.
The crown, as Apple refers to as the “digital crown” is a hardware dial, as you would find on a regular watch, which can be used to navigate menus and lists, zoom in and out of images and maps, and more.
Apple Watch features built-in Siri, Dictation and Emoji.
The Apple Watch will require at least an iPhone 5 to function. Information such as GPS is obtained through the smartphone through Bluetooth or perhaps WiFi connectivity, which will sync data between the phone and the Apple watch.
So far there has been no speficis on battery life, something many of us are eager to know. It’s obvious Apple still has some work to do in this regard. Apple did however preview the wireless inductive Mag-Safe charging, with the watch snapping wirelessly into a charging cradle. This means less cable and less clutter.
Availability and Pricing
While there was no specific price mentioned, there has been indication that we can expect a price from $350, with the Watch “Coming Early 2015“.
