Apple has opened up it’s Apple Beta Software Program to now include not only OS X but iOS as well. For example, the latest iOS 8.3 beta is open to Apple Beta Software Program praticipants.
The website includes a Beta Program FAQ and some words of precaution:
- Before you install beta software, please be sure to back up your Mac using Time Machine or your iOS device with iTunes.
- You should not install beta software on production or business-critical systems.
The advantage of Apple rolling out a public beta program for their software platforms is that final versions of OS X and iOS will be less buggy and more stable. Also, you can opt out of the beta program at any time and restore your devices to shipping versions of OS X and iOS by simply restoring from your last backup.
Apple fans that want to have the latest software from Apple can sign up at the Apple Beta Program page and receive beta updates for their Macs and iOS devices.
Note: It is noted that to get in to the iOS Beta, you may have to had previously applied for the Mac OS X Beta and/or have received an invite from Apple to participate in the iOS Beta. We have not confirmed this at this stage. However, it seems you will be automatically approved for the Mac OS X Beta, regardless.
